One last flower for you, Mom. One that won’t wilt and fade away. Approaching this first Mother’s Day without you has been a sobering reminder that you’re really gone—a thorn that keeps poking at me and reminding me of the sadness I’ve felt and just how much I miss you. However, I’ve come to realize this thorn is a gift. A reminder that has forced me to stop, to recognize, and to remember the beauty of the life you’ve lived.
As I replay all of the moments and memories in my head, I’m overcome with love and gratitude for every second I had with you and thank God for the incomprehensible gift it’s been to have you as my mother. You and the remarkable but all too often unheralded role mothers play in our lives deserves to be honored, to be recognized, and to be celebrated a million times more than just a single day in May.
