The concept behind our Signature Series is that we simply want to honor influential people in their field, be it fighters, tattoo artists, musicians, professional sports players; you get the point, anyone that is an exceptional leader in and out of their chosen field. We began, Signature Series, hoping to capture, or better understand how and why they have excelled so far in their field and in their journey in life. Nick, our master designer, gets the opportunity to sit down with them and ask questions like; using only music, art, religion, politics, and any other form of external forces, describe yourself and any self-defining experiences in your life. The question may be a strange one, but that question alone has been a vital part of the development for most of us as individuals and of course, our Signature Series recipients, crazy, no? Though we may not always be aware of it, outside forces encourage us or ignite something within us to push ourselves to a level that we may not have had the will to do ourselves. Nick also asks direct questions like, if you had the capabilities to produce a piece of jewelry that represented you, what would it look like? What symbols, signs, expressions, and emotions would truly represent you as an individual?
“Designing custom pieces for our Signature clientele is incredibly rewarding. Having the opportunity to capture the truth in what our clients express and translate it into a sketch, is an honor, but to present it to my client and to see their reaction to it, is the ultimate compliment.” Nick Ballantyne, Master Designer.
Once the sketch is completed, Nick begins the process of bringing the conceptual sketch into life. He believes that the sketch isn’t always what the final piece will become.
“…when the sketch is presented, I often remind my client that it represents their story, their unique history up to this point, this sketch is who they are, a visual definition, if you will...but sometimes the sketch doesn’t translate that easily into a piece of jewelry. The final piece of jewelry becomes in and of itself its own form of self-representation…We’re a complicated animal, man.”
That’s what makes each piece of jewelry so uniquely important, it’s layered in the richness of each person, like a puzzle, we’re made up of a barrage of different pieces and shapes which create a whole and on top of that our whole is only one part of the puzzle that makes up this world. That is why we do this - to honor those who have achieved a level of success that can inspire a world of people around us. Our hope is to create jewelry that no longer sits idle in a box or rests unnoticed on a strangers arm, instead we want it to provoke thought, action, and have it become anyone’s personal inspiration or mode of self-expression.
